By now you may have heard that Patrick Arnold, the BALCO chemist is involved with another doping problem in Major League Baseball.

Major League Baseball will suspend Philadelphia Phillies lefthander J.C. Romero and New York Yankees righthander Sergio Mitre for the first 50 games of the 2009 season testing positive for a metabolite of testosterone (a failed testosterone doping analysis) if I am reading the situation correctly. They are claiming that it was from using the Ergopharm Supplement 6-OXO, which may be possible, depending on the type of test used, and what it tested for.

According to the arbitrator’s report, a sample of the supplement to MLB for testing, and the tests showed that 6-OXO itself contained a substance that could result in a positive drug test. The results were sent to commissioner Bud Selig’s office in July.

Romero will lose about $1.25 million in salary, Mitre about $60,000.

A possible cause for this positive may be cross-contamination (or simply that the people involved were using anabolic steroids). By cross contamination, I mean that Ergopharm has recently come out with a new version of their 1-AD product, which ultimately converts to 1-Androstenediol, similarly to the old 1-Testosterone (Dihydroboldenone):

Still, this seems highly unlikely, as studies suggest that even taking high doses of prohormones are unlikely to cause a positive result for steroids. This is like drinking water and claiming it was why you got nailed for drunk driving. And it should be noted that Ergopharm consistently reminds everyone that they have very strict quality controls. On this issue, Patrick Arnold has stated:

“perhaps he took testosterone and they are using 6-oxo extreme contained andro as a coverup“

Needless to say, at this point, I’m not 100% sure what the positive test precisely entailed, or why it happened yet - and am not able to evaluate what has happened as accurately as possible (fog of war and all that).

Of course, other recent internet posts that Patrick has been making may prove to be damaging to him, as he and his company have once again fallen under public scrutiny for the aforementioned doping issues.

During the writing of this article about the new (undetectable) performance enhancing drug “S-4″, I was told that Patrick Arnold had asking around for a sample (which Patrick later confirmed on the Muscular Development forums):

Yes, the guy who was involved with the largest sports doping scandal in the past decade (BALCO) has been publicly talking about his attempts to procure a sample of an undetectable performance enhancing drug!

Now he’s involved with another very-public doping issue. [In his defense, Pat said he wanted to analyze it to make sure it's real - but still, publicly asking for undetectable drugs is a bad idea for a man like Patrick.]
With the kind of public scrutiny Patrick and Ergopharm is getting at this point, it’s not great to be posting stuff like this on the ‘net.

I dont know if Patrick Arnold did anything wrong in this case, but Major League Baseball is going to be causing him some headaches, and his various internet postings aren’t going to be of much help - especially when his supplements are under scrutiny and he’s publicly trying to get his hands on an undetcable drug.

It’s all bad news, and I hope everything works out, and the truth (or something resembling it) comes to the surface.

On the bright side, when McGwire got caught using Andro, sales jumped 1,000% the following week….I expect 1-AD sales to jump considerably also.

The usual suspects up on Capitol Hill have put Professional Wrestling in their crosshairs. Senator Waxman (the politician who made a fool of himself in Chris Bell’s documentary “Bigger Stronger Faster.”

Congress released a report on drug testing in World Wrestling Entertainment. The results showed that professional wrestlers use more recreational drugs than anabolic steroids (the truth is probably somewhere in between that statement - and that painkillers are basically par for the course).

McMahon doesn’t submit to drug testing personally (and has admitted in the past that he uses performance enhancing drugs), because he is not under contract by the WWE (per se).

There was 479 tests, with 58 positives. (4.2 tests per wrester during the testing period). I should note at this point that I am EXTREMELY familiar with the WWE, their testing protocol, and professional wrestling in general because my current literary agent has worked with several authors who have blown this topic wide open (and I’ve written about it in my new book also).

Most positive tests in the publicly released report were for marijuana (which is the easiest thing to test for, in terms of rec drugs). There were 9 positives for anabolic steroids (2 x nandrolone, 5 x testosterone, and 2 x Winstrol). Two guys also tested positive for yayo.

But my question is why do they care about professional wrestling, which has a fixed outcome, and therefore the performers are NOT cheating when they use anabolic steroids. [Note: I didn't say "fake" - I said "fixed outcome" because after researching professional wrestling for literally several months, I've come to have a much deeper respect for this form of entertainment]. Currently there is a huge legal action against the WWE that has been filed by former wrestlers who are attempting to prove that all of the independent contractors being employed are actually full employees (which they are).

Now, I know that professional bodybuilders aren’t “cheating” when they use steroids either (because everyone does it). But I feel that professional bodybuilding probably has just as much of an impact on children today (save the kids!) as professional wrestling. In fact, professional bodybuilding may have MORE of an impact on kids who are weight training, because supplement ads, bodybuilding rags (umm…I mean magazines), etc…all contain professional bodybuilders who are 100% using steroids. So realistically, Congress would be having a bigger impact on kids who may be thinking about using steroids by focusing on professional bodybuilding, and not professional wrestling.

It’s just my own humble opinion, but it’s not far off, and if they ever take a realistic look at professional bodybuilding, the game is over for the IFBB.

Muscular Development has just added a very nice article on Testosterone Undecanoate to their main page (by a guy who I briefly met in Vegas, and who is on my very short list of people I actually enjoy speaking to in this industry) . You may recall that I made a blog post a few months ago, on the same compound. But you probably don’t recall that my original article on this subject actually appeared in my Injected column over on Steroid.com in November of 2007 (it is now 2009!).

Anyway, as I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about this stuff lately, I’m going to re-run my article from 2007, so we can all get up to speed (although you should read my last blog post on it, and the MD article as well, if you want to really know everything possible)

NEW STEROID ON THE MARKET: RHYMES WITH “LIBIDO”
NOVEMBER 27, 2007
By Anthony Roberts

Alright, so there’s a new steroid on the market. I think that the name is supposed to vaguely rhyme with “libido” but I’m not totally sure. It would make sense, since it’s an absurdly long acting version of Testosterone, which at the recommended dose only requires one shot every twelve weeks. At this dose it will keep testosterone levels for a hypogonadal male in the normal range. It will give that hypogonadal (and hypothetical) male that I’m talking about a “new libido” …hence the name “Nebido” for this new drug.

I think.

A few weeks ago I had publicly predicted that the Hormone Replacement Market would continue to grow, and I suspected that prescribing guidelines would probably be relaxed a bit. I still think this is true, and I’m very happy to see new alternatives for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) being developed and marketed.

However, this isn’t exactly a new steroid (testosterone), but in this form it’s going to be very new to the American HRT market. This drug has been available for a couple of years over in Europe already, released by Bayer Shering Pharma. Studies conducted by that company indicate that blood levels of testosterone provided by this drug will be within the normal range within 3 days of the first injection, will peak within the first week, and will maintain normal levels for 10-12 weeks. In the United States, the pharmaceutical company Indevus (traded as IDEV on the New York Stock Exchange), has licensed the drug for release into the American market. Currently, their other major product in that market is Delatestryl (Testosterone Enanthate).

Nebido is poised to take over a good deal of the American HRT market though, because it only needs to be used once every 3 months (4-5 injections per year). The market here is convenience and comfort for both the doctor and the patient. Doctors typically don’t want their patients to come into their office and walk out with a 10ml vial of testosterone and some needles, and go home to do the injections by themselves. On the other hand, patients don’t want to go to their doctor’s office every week or every other week to receive an injection.

Enter Nebido.

Basically, this drug is a 4 milliliter injection comprised of 1,000mg of testosterone undecanoate, packaged in an ampule (a sterile, single use glass container, which can not be closed once it’s been opened). Testosterone Undecanoate (TU) has been offered before, though, in various forms. Many people will be familiar with it’s most common form, which is an oral form called “Andriol” that contains 40mgs of TU in each capsule.

The injectable form of TU was previously on the market in both a multi-testosterone blend as well as alone by a veterinary company called Ft. Dodge. The Ft. Dodge version was available in a 50mg/ml size only, and I have to admit to having tried it out just prior to a Spring Break in Mexico many years ago.

As “new” as this drug is, it’s not a very creative effort by the company who brought it to the market. Essentially, they took a very long acting and slow releasing version of testosterone, put a huge dose of it in a container that can’t be resealed (so you have to shoot it all at once), and marketed it as a 12 week supply of HRT. This isn’t groundbreaking stuff, but they’re marketing it very aggressively, doing studies on it, and applying for new drug patents in numerous countries.

If money spent on advertising is any indication of how a product will do in the marketplace, this one will be a huge success. It’s also very expensive, depending on how you look at its price breakdown.

For 12 weeks of normal testosterone levels, this drug isn’t a bad buy. It’s costing about $300 from legitimate pharmacies, and about half of that on the black market. Again, seen as a twelve week supply of testosterone, $300 is not a bad price.

When you consider the fact that what you’re actually getting (physically, in that box of Nebido) is 4mls of testosterone dosed at 250mgs/ml, $300 is an absurd price to be paying. The cost to physically manufacture this product, including everything from the box to the active ingredients is under a dollar.

No, I’m not kidding.

Yes, this product will cost less than a dollar for its physical production – and the price will be roughly $300 by the time it reaches the pharmacy. Now, given the fact that this company had their stock drop by over a full dollar during a key quarter last year (fiscal 2006), it’s not surprising that they would need to come out with a product which provided them with a huge profit margin in the American HRT market. Remember, the American HRT market is one of the most rapidly expanding markets in the pharmaceutical field.

My advice?

Buy stock in Indevus but don’t actually buy their Nebido product. It’s a total rip off, and there’s better buys for the HRT patient.

Tom Prince (who I don’t know, but would assume is telling the truth) recently did a Q & A about anabolic steroids that I think people would find interesting:

1. “Why come off the gear 2 weeks out?” Simple. I actually looked better after being off for 2 weeks. I’d always lose 4 - 5 pounds of water from just being off for those 2 weeks. Doesn’t matter if the steroids are still “working”, per se.. it only matters what the muscle looks like. Plus, that last week, I’m not training balls to the wall. Just pumping movements that last week. No need to worry about recovery from training, etc,
[Note from Anthony Roberts: This was an idea I first read about in a book published in the late '70s by Dr. James E. Wright, called "Anabolic Steroids and Sports" - ever since the late '70s bodybuilders have been dropping their gear a few weeks out, and losing water weight as a result. It is something continued today, and repeated in every top-level cycle by everyone...but it is not only an OLD idea, but several DECADES old by now.]
2. “Human Grade Products“. ALWAYS. I had a prescription for Test, Deca, Teslac, HCG. As much as humanly possible, I’d stick with American Pharmacuetical products.

3. “Average amounts compared to my peers?” I’d say average, or less. Titus was famous for using TONS. LIke, 5000 mg./week. I won’t name anyone else, but there’s more than a few guys that do that. But, hey, I didn’t win any pro shows, so, maybe I should have been doing 5000 mgs/week. LOL. The 2 guys I know that did that much, Titus and one other guy, didn’t win any shows, either.

4. “What doses did I use in my early cycles/” My first cycle was 200 tabs of dianabol, 200 tabs of Anavar. 8 week cycle. Cost me $100 for 2 bottles of each. That shows my age. LOL.

But, after that first cycle, I always used Test. My 2nd cycle was 200 mg. of test for 3 weeks, 400 mg. of test for 3 weeks. I didn’t use more than 4 cc’s of test/ week (800 mg’s) until I was 275 pounds, and 25 years old.

VERY IMPORTANT: You want to use as LITTLE as possible to keep yourself growing and making gains. If you use 1500 mg. of test and 6 iu’s of GH to add 10 pounds from 180 - 190 pounds, you’ll NEVER get to 250. The faster you rush it, and the more the gear makes your gains (and not your training), the faster you’ll lose those gains when you come off. You want to use the gear to push yourself PAST your own limitations. That’s why it’s soooooo important to have a great base built up.

I’ve told this story before: I got to 248 pounds, natural. I’m 5′8″. I waited till I had an awesome base built up, before I ever touched the gear.

I also didn’t use GH until I had already gotten 2nd at Nationals in 1995. The very first time I used GH, was getting ready for the 1996 USA.

Also, I DIDN’T use GH when I won Nationals in 1997. I probably would have, but I couldn’t afford it. Serostim was brand new in late 1997, and it was $1300/box at the time. I needed 3 boxes. No way I had $3900 for just GH. In fact, I know I only spent about $1200 TOTAL on all my gear for the ‘97 Nationals. Regardles of the cost.. I believed I didn’t need the GH to win Nationals.

Point about the GH. I waited a very long time to use it. I wanted to be as good as possible, as big as possible, and do as well, competitively, as possible, before I used it. THIS WAS PLANNED!!

I also wanted to learn how to diet without the GH. There IS a difference in how you diet, depending on whether or not you’re using GH.

Anyway…I think this is a really great Q&A by Tom Prince, and I hope you dug it as much as me.

What happens when you try typing in “RoidStore.com” or “BuySteroids.com” into your google browser? You get an immediate link telling you that RoidStore and BuySteroids are scams. At this point, anyone using Google to research BuySteroids.com and/or RoidStore.com will find immediate links (suggested by google itself) displaying what a scam they are:

As you can see, I’ve simply typed in the names of Brian Clapp’s two most lucrative businesses, and the immediate response by google is to fill in the blanks with “Scam”.

Anyone who uses google (which is EVERYONE) to research Brian Clapp’s businesses online will now find that they are complete scams. This is 100% because of me and my efforts to expose him for the fraudster that he is (and yes, I am well aware that his lawyers are currently accessing my blog from their Houston, Texas based server, and I now have full access to much of the information that they probably wish had been hidden from me).

A good hint to his lawyers would be to not access my blog (over 100 seperate times) from the IP address that they have registered to their offices (as it provides me with a TON of information that would otherwise be unavailable to me).

My upcoming book features 37 pages of information about Brian, his family, and his legal representation that implicates all of them in felony level charges.

I’ll continue exposing frauds like this until I’m dead or in jail - and when (if?) I’m in jail (which I’m willing to accept in order to expose the truth), there are others within the industry who will continue to keep up this tradition of exposing frauds.

SPARTA!!!!!!

Yesterday, I told you about MuscleTech’s recent legal activity, and gave you some insight into their past legal problems, and fraudulent practices. Today, I’m telling you how you can let them know what you think, and be heard by millions of people:

Go edit their Wikipedia Page. As it stands, the page has nothing negative on it (at all) about the company. And, as yesterday’s blog post showed you, there are numerous documented instances of them getting into legal trouble, getting blasted in court, attacked by the media, etc…

So, all you need to do, if you care to help expose MuscleTech (to people other than the forum members who already know about them), is go to Wikipedia and (following the proper rules the site has for documentation and editing profiles) simply edit the MuscleTech Wikipedia page - you don’t even need to register an account to do it.

Remember, only use documented instances of fraud and deception (like the hyperlinks I’ve provided in my blog from yesterday)- forum threads (like this one) are not acceptable…but much of the documented instances within it (the lawsuits, newspaper articles, etc…) can be used and properly cited.

Here’s a good example of a page that I contributed to, which is about an organization that threatened to sue me last year…at the time they threatened to sue me, they didn’t even have a page on Wikipedia…(and a year later, if you google their name, you get the Wikipedia entry for them as one of the first few hits).

Now go show Muscletech what you think of them, and be heard by millions of people - all in the same amount of time it would have taken you to bitch about them on the forums!

Go make a difference.
